What else matters to us
Community, Pro Bono & Purpose
For Ashlings Legal: Greater Manchester & the North West
Why giving back matters
At Ashlings Legal, we believe law is more than a service. It's a force for fairness. Giving back is how we live that belief. When people can access clear, practical legal help, they're better able to protect their homes, secure work, grow businesses, and keep families safe. By investing our time and skills pro bono, we help remove barriers to justice, strengthen local organisations, and build trust with the communities we serve.
Why we support local
We are proud to call Greater Manchester and the wider North West our home. From Manchester and Salford to Trafford, Stockport, Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham and Wigan, this region's strength lies in its people: neighbours, small business owners, charities, schools, and social enterprises that make our towns thrive. Supporting the local community means showing up where needs are real and immediate: housing and employment issues, small business challenges, youth opportunity and social mobility. Our commitment is practical, visible, and sustained, so the benefits don't end at a single clinic or workshop. They ripple outward.
Our mission
To make high-quality legal support accessible, empower people through education, and partner with local organisations to create measurable, positive change across Greater Manchester and the North West.
Our purpose
We exist to serve people with clarity and compassion, to uphold fairness in everyday life, and to help our region flourish: economically, socially, and civically.
Our community priorities
- Access to justice:
- Deliver free, focused legal advice for individuals and community groups on housing, employment, family, immigration and small-business matters.
- Youth & education:
- Run 'Know Your Rights' workshops; mentor students; support schools and colleges with career pathways into law.
- Small business & social enterprise:
- Offer pro bono and low-bono guidance on contracts, governance, data protection, and compliance to unlock local growth.
- Community partnerships:
- Collaborate with charities, councils, and universities to design initiatives that amplify local impact.
- Sustainability & inclusion:
- Back projects that improve wellbeing, advance social mobility, and promote responsible, sustainable practice in our community work.
- Measurable impact:
- Track outcomes (people helped, hours contributed, partnerships formed, issues resolved) and publish an annual community report.
How we deliver
- Monthly legal clinics:
- Work with local North West organisations to enable walk-in or pre-booked sessions at community centres and libraries.
- Targeted workshops:
- Practical 'Know Your Rights' sessions for tenants, workers, and early-stage founders, with plain-English guidance and real-world examples.
- Mentoring & pathways:
- Ongoing mentoring for pupils and students; insight days and work experience to demystify legal careers.
- Partnership projects:
- Co-design programmes with local charities, councils, universities, and business incubators to reach people at scale.
- Pro bono for start-ups & social enterprises:
- Structured consultations and templates to help purpose-led organisations get off the ground responsibly.
- Advocacy & outreach:
- Champion access to justice and responsible business practices through local campaigns and community media.
